Aayiram Vilakku Preview

Cast:Santhanu, Sathyaraj, Sana Khan
Direction:S P Hosimin
Music:Srikanth Deva
'Aayiram Vilakku' is a forthcoming film directed by SP Hosimin. It is the first production venture of HMI Pictures and second for director SP Hosimin after his first film February 14. The tag line of the film is “A mafia epic overshadowed by love.” The shooting of 'Aayiram Vilakku' started in October, 2009.
Set in the back drop of Madurai soil the film is a different kind of gangster story. Its about a strong rowdy Lingam who is ruthless in his acts. While being an untamable wild bull, Lingam comes across a young boy Gopal who is the son of a coolie. Love and bonding develops between the two and Lingam’s life changes. Lingam who has not known what love and affection is all about starts experiencing the same by the actions of Gopal. Gopal works to bring Lingam out of his life in darkness. Lingam feels Gopal is like a thousand lamps that has lit his dark life hi lived all along. While they are living like a father-son, suddenly some events turn around their lives.
Sathyaraj plays Lingam and Shantanu plays Gopal in this emotional drama. Sathyaraj has played consequential role after a long time. For Shantanu this is going to be a real commercial identification he has been waiting for.  His character is diagonally opposite to what he played in Sakkarakatti.
Another revelation in the film is going to be Sana Khan according to all. Director Hosimin, Sathyaraj and Shantanu had unanimously praised Sana Khan for her performance in the film. Sana Khan who entered Kollywood as an item girl has proved she is a genuine star material in the film. The most appreciative remarks from all were her ability to perform so well in spite of not able to speak Tamil. So she will be one to watch out in the film.
The big stars in Aayiram Viklakku are Sathyaraj, Santhanu Bhagyaraj, Sana Khan, Suman, Delhi Ganesh, Thalaivasal Vijay and ‘Ganja’ Karuppu. Theepeti Ganesh and Suja are also there.
The audio of the film was launched on August 9. Srikanth Deva has scored the music for the songs written by Vairamuthu. The film has seven songs and they are these. “Madura Madura” sung by Naveen & Velmurugan, “Porale” sung by Karthik, “Andipatti” sung by Karthik, “Jigarthanda” sung by Karthik and Rita, “Enna Thavam” sung by KJ Yesudas, “Uthama Puthirane” sung by KJ Yesudas and “Rathiye” sung by Harish Radavendra and Chinmayi
All the songs are to be watched for the beautiful words. Particularly ‘Enna thavam Seithen’ sung by KJ Yesudas. Also there is on song that encapsulates the symbols of Madurai like matu thavani, Jigarthanda, Azhagarmalai etc.
Director Hosimin belongs to Madurai and so he has shown Madurai in all its flesh and blood. He was an assistant to Shankar. And that adds to his credibility. This film is sure to take Hosimin out of the closet while his first film February 14 with Bharath did not
Hosimin recently said that this film was supposed to be produced by two of the most reputed banners in Tamil films, but destiny had it be produced by a first timer HMI Pictures. This sums up what the film has in store.

Boss Engira Baskaran Preview

Banner:Vasan Visual Venture
Cast:Arya, Nayantara
Direction:Rajesh
Production:Srinivasan
Music:Yuvan Shankar Raja
‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ is a forthcoming film of Red Giant Movies. The film was actually started by Vasan Visual Ventures that produced Bala’s national award winning film ‘Naan Kadavil’. Later actor Arya undertook the film under his home banner ‘The Show People’ even as the film was under production. But in the end ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ was lapped up in total by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies.
Rajesh. M of the cute romantic comedy ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ is the director of this film. While ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ was a city based romance director Rajesh has made his second film a romantic comedy happening mostly in a country back drop, although it travels to city in some parts.
The story is about an ever obliging guy Baskaran (Arya) who is always busy doing odd jobs for other people. In the process he misses a lot of his personal life and doesn’t seem to embark on a useful career. When things almost go out of hand, a no-nonsense young girl Chandrika (Nayantara) enters his life and puts him on right track. A middle class love also blooms on the way.
‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ was launched in November 2009 and finished the entire shooting in August 2010. The film was largely shot in locations like Thanjavur, Mysore and Trichy. A major portion was also film in Kumbakonam and a few in Chennai as well. While for the story they remained in and around Tamil Nadu, Rajesh and his team went to Switzerland for the songs. True to Tamil film culture.
The lead artistes’ words “There was not a single moment when we were stressed out,” that vouch for the clean entertainer. Santhanam plays a friend of Arya and that also ensures good comedy in the film.
Music of the film is scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja who gave some great songs in ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ with the help of words from Na. Muthukumar. Remember the song ‘Oru kal, oru kannadi udaiyamal modhikondal kadhal’? The same musician-lyricist-director combo is working magic in this film too. The film has five songs.
Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the musical score of ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’, too. The film has 5 songs all written by Na. Muthukumar.
Other credits for the film are; Cinematographer Sakthi Saravanan, Art Jacki, Editing Vivekharshan, Choreography Dhinesh, Stunt Rajasekar,  Costume Designer Nalini Sriram (Nayantara) and Dheepali (Arya).
‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ is looking for a September release.

Chikku Bhukku Preview

Banner:Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd, Majestic Multimedia Limited
Cast:Arya, Shriya Saran, Preethi Rao
Direction:Manikandan
Music:Hariharan, Leslie Lewis
Times have changed. But changed not is the craze for romance fictions and travelogues. Blending the both on celluloid is Manikandan, a former associate of late Cinematographer-filmmaker Jeeva.
His forthcoming venture 'Chikku Bhukku', starring Arya and Shriya Saran in lead roles, is a romantic entertainer shot on a train. The film is produced by Media One Global Entertainment Limited in association with Majestic Multimedia Limited.
Interestingly, Manikandan and Media One share a good rapport even before the commencement of this venture. For it was Manikandan who completed 'Dhaam Dhoom' after its director Jeeva's sudden demise.
According to a press release, the duo has now aimed to reach even higher with 'Chikku Bhukku'. The release says: "The film stars Arya, who did a stunning performance in ‘Naan Kadavul’. Shriya Saran has done a never before performance in this film. Debutante Preetika has a very important role and she is the younger sister of Bollywood star Amrita Rao."
"Arya with his earlier performance in 'Varudu' has created a brand for himself with the Telugu audience, while Shriya is a leading actress in Tollywood. Considering the kind of response that these lead actors hold, the film will simultaneously release in Tamil and Telugu," it adds.
Most of the technicians who had worked with Jeeva are part of the 'Chikku Bhukku' team. Camera was handled by R B Gurudhev, dialogues were written by S Ramakrishnan, and lyrics were done by Valee, Pa Vijay and music by Colonial Cousins Hari and Lesle, while Rekha Chinni Prakash and Dinesh did the choreography. The costumes were handled by V Sai and Deepali Noor.
Says Manikandan, "The film is a romantic travelogue, which starts in London and ends in Karaikudi. The shooting took place in and around trendy areas of London, scenic locales of Mysore, Coonoor and traditional houses of Karaikudi.
The diversity between spectacular locations in London, rain forests near exotic western ghats in Karnataka and monumental Karaikudi would give a new look and grandeur to ‘Chikku Bhukku’."
He adds: “I learnt a lot of things from my mentor Jeeva. ‘Think big and be confident about whatever you take up,’ he would say. I am sure ‘Chikku Bhukku’ will work, thanks to its script and lead players.”
On the movie’s storyline, he says, “It is a romantic travelogue. As the title suggests, a train will be seen in the background in most parts of the movie.”
On the whole, 'Chikku Bhukku', a nostalgic clang of a train, is expected to give its viewers, a new romantic journey, which would be enjoyed by one and all.

Aravaan Preview

Cast:Aadhi, Pasupathy, Dhanshika, Archana Kavi
Direction:Vasanthabalan
Music:Karthik
Making period movies is no easy task. But filmmakers like Vasanthabalan could be an exemption to this, for he managed to capture even the busy Ranganathan Street with all its liveliness in his last venture ‘Angadi Theru’, which is tougher than making a period film.
Gaining strength from the movie’s success and the appreciations it won from all sides, the former associate of director Shankar has started ‘Aravaan’, a film set in the backdrop of rural Tamil Nadu in the 18th century.
Produced by T Siva of Amma Creations, the film has Aadhi of ‘Mirugam’ and ‘Eeram’ fame in the lead role, with Dhanshika (of ‘Peranmai and ‘Maanja Velu’) and Mollywood import Archana Kavi as heroines.
Pasupathy is playing an all-important negative role in ‘Aravaan’, based on a critically acclaimed novel, while the film marks popular singer Karthik taking the avatar of as a music composer for the first time.
“Aravaan means an all-powerful person, who possesses 32 features in him. He is capable of doing anything. Aadhi is tailor-made for the role since he is the Hrithik Roshan of Tamil cinema,” says Vasanthabalan.

Ayyanaar Preview

Banner:Sri Rajalakshmi Films
Cast:Aadhi, Meera Nandan
Direction:Rajamithran
Production:P L Thenappan
Music:Thaman
PL Thenappan, the producer known for his big budget films like Pancha Thanthiram, Pammal K Sambantham, Kadhala Kadhala and Thenali has produced this small budget movie ‘Ayyanaar’. It is written and directed by debutante director S.S.Rajamithran who is just out of film institute.
‘Ayyanaar’ is a catchy title and the film is said to be on village love story with heavy leanings on ‘thaai paasam’ (mother sentiments) as well.
Aadhi of ‘Mirugam and Eeram’ and Meera Nandan of ‘Vaalmiki’ are the lead characters in this film. Meera is a college student who is into volleyball and Aadhi plays the coach. Meera meets the Aadhi by accident and initially develops a bad impression of him and suspects his intentions. At the end it’s all rosy. ‘Ayyanaar’ film is largely set in a village, but some scenes take place in the city also.
‘Karuthamma’ Rajashree is playing the important character of Aadhi’s mother. The film was slightly delayed because Rajashree got married and her husband’s family was against acting after marriage. The issue was settled later and film was completed.
One highlight of the film will be the comedy track by Santhanam. He is said to have done an important solo comedy track in the film, in which he has spoofed Osama Bin Laden. His hilarious job is sure to have you in splits.
Music is by the young talented S.Thaman who is having a good run these days. Thaman has tuned five songs for the film and one song “Paniye Paniye” is a real lyrical beauty. Lyrics are written by Na. Muthukumar, Thamarai and Vivega.  Singers used are Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar. Priyadharshini, Velmurugan, Bruce Lee, Aalaap Raju and Naveen. The audio of ‘Ayyanaar’ was released on June 14 by Bharathiraja and others at Sathyam Cinemas.
About ‘Ayyanaar’ hero Aadhi has said “The film has come out very well and all credits should go my director Rajamithran and Thenappan sir. It is a mass commercial entertainer. The songs are good. Wish it reigns supreme at the box- office.” He also said “Dancing was a bit difficult in the film but I managed to.”
Music director Thaman has said “I love to work with Aadhi and both of us share a good rapport.
I’ve done live recording for the film and I always get a lot of energy while working along with Aadhi.”
Director Raja Mithran while speaking about the film has said” The story is like a journey that begins from death to birth. This film is a commercial film with reality.”
‘Ayyanaar’ is releasing in July.

Ambasamuthiram Ambani Preview

Cast:Karunaas, Navneeth Kaur, Kota Srinivasa Rao, R. Sundarrajan, Livingston, VMC Hanifa, Mayilsamy, Urvashi, Nirosha
Direction:Ramnath
Production:John Prieto
Music:Karunaas
It’s not that easy for a comedian to turn a hero and be on the top of expectation chart even for the second film. Karunas has managed to do what almost all the comedians couldn’t do. His first film as a hero ‘Dindugal Sarathy’ which was a remake of the Malayalam hit ‘Vadakkunokki Yanthram’ was a winner at the box-office in 2008.
Armed with the confidence of being accepted if the story is good Karunas has come with his second film ‘Ambasamuthiram Ambani’. His first film dealt with the changing situations in the life of an ordinary looking man who marries a beautiful woman.
‘Ambasamuthiram Ambani’ is also about a simpleton who nourished his own dreams of making it good in life. After the demise of his parents, a villager comes to the city of Chennai with high hopes and big dreams to become a rich businessman like the Ambanis. But he wants to achieve success on fair terms only. This is the story in a nut shell.
Navneet Kaur who was last seen in Vijaykanth’s ‘Arasangam’ plays the female lead opposite Karunas. The comedy segments are handled by Livingston and the late Cochin Haneefa. Other important stars in the film are Kotta Srinivasa Rao, R.Sundarajan, Mayilsami, Oorvasi and Nirosha.
Apart from donning the lead role, Karunas is also the music director of the film. The above average success of his first musical ‘Rajadhi Raja’ has encouraged Karunas to do for this home production also. Vairamuthu has written all the lyrics. A song about what is Chennai written by Kaviyarasu is very thought provoking they say.
‘Ambasamuthiram Ambani’ is written and directed by P. Ramnath, who worked with Karunas on his comedy tracks all through. Pulithevan, a former assistant to K.V. Anand is in charge of cinematography.
The film recently sparked off a pleasant debate as Sun Pictures took over. Even Karuna’s first film ‘Dindugal Sarathy’ was a Sun Pictures release which goes on to say about the content.
‘Ambasamuthiram Ambani’ is releasing on July 2.

Advocate Lakshmanan Ladies Only Movie Review

Cast:Mukesh, Jagadish, Mallika Kapoor, Harishree Ashokan, Prem Kumar
Direction:Pappan Payattuvila
Production:S. Mohan
Music:Mohan Sithara

A potential one-liner, but poor writing and tacky situations. Add to that some very shoddy direction and routine performances…. There ends the chances of a film, particularly one that features old names like Mukesh and Jagadheesh.
‘Advocate Lakshmanan, Ladies Only’ is the latest movie which suffers with all these causalities to end up as a below average fare. Had the movie on a same plot line, but with inspiring writing and direction made on a more crowd pulling hero, it may have worked well with the audience. But given the present situations, there is no chance.
The film revolves around an advocate named Lakshmanan, quite famous for ‘liberating’ women from the clutches of evil husbands. ‘A divorce case’’ specialist, Lakshmanan sees to it that once the divorce is sanctioned, he even helps them to live an independent life by offering them jobs in his Pickles factory named ‘Ladies Only’. A man with number of fans among the fairer sex, for his cunning ways to secure divorce for hapless women, he always comes with loggerheads with his own brother –in –law (Suraj Venjaramoodu), another advocate who is destined to fail in every situation.
After establishing the premise in not so funny ways, the real turn happens in the life of Lakshmanan when an ‘Aaradhika’ started calling him regularly for his big deeds. After some days she reveals herself to be ‘Annie’ a college lecturer in a city college. She has her share of problems with a former lover ‘Alex’ following her. Lakshmanan who had already started admiring her decides to jump into the case which further complicates the life of the protagonist. The rest of the film is all about some twists in tale, revenge stories and finally the advocate is destined to turn a new leaf, realising his problems in accessing behaviors of others.
Among the stars Mukesh is on another routine role with nothing special, not even much funny dialogues that could have saved the movie for a reasonably better opening. The lady lead played by Mallika Kapoor need to better herself many fold to shine in a Mollywood flick. Others in the movie like Ashokan, Jagadheesh and Suraj Venjaramoodu are in familiar territories trying to be in the same mould of what they had been for quite some time. Many sequences, involving Harishree Ashokan and other comedians fail to impress.
The directorial side by Pappan Payattuvila is a major letdown, particularly in the former half. He seems to have given little care to check for continuities that may catch the eyes of even an ordinary viewer. Writing by K S Padmakumar remains half baked. Though the camera side is better, most of the times it seems to settle some where in a moving crane.
All in all, ‘Advocate Lakshmann: Ladies Only’ is a movie which doesn’t start off as a hilarious comedy nor ends as an engaging suspense mystery. A half-baked attempt in all counts, the chances of the movie at the Box Office is really dismal.

Sakudumbam Shyamala Movie Review

Banner:Kunchu Veetil Films

Cast:Urvashi, Saikumar, Bhama, Kunchakko Boban
Direction:Radhakrishnan Mangalath
Production:S. Gopakumar
Music:M G Sreekumar

She can be loud but still be appreciable. And when it comes to comedy there is no other star to beat her in Mollywood ...Yes, Urvashi, once again proves why she is one of the most demanded actress in Mollywood even in her comeback with a senior look. In the movie 'Sakudumbam Shyamala', built on very illogical storyline ala channel comedy soaps, the title character offers plenty of space for its lead actor to show off her finesse in comic timing and acting.
Directed by debutant Radhakrishanan Mangalthu, who is known for his over the top comic serials of mini screen, ‘Sakudumbam Shyamala’ is a very light take on the silly fighting life situations of a brother and sister. District collector Sekharan IAS (Nedumudi Venu) who had brought up his kid sister Shyamala (Urvashi) with great affection is devastated when Shyamala elopes with Vasudevan (Saikumar), a tutor in a parallel college. Later Vasudevan becomes an office staff with Shekharan and is also living in the neighbourhood of the collector, but never do the sister and brother see eye to eye and both take every step to harass each other for that lone incident that happened 25 years ago.
Shyamala, meanwhile nurtures hopes of getting her only son, Aakash, a video editor by profession, married with a girl of an NRI parents, though Aakash is in love with a channel anchor Nandhana (Bhama), the daughter of an idealist Viswanathan. On the insistence of Pappan (Suraj Venjarmoodu) a leader of a local party, Shyamala accidentally becomes an MLA and later a minister, but the fights between the collector and the new revenue minister is the only agenda that goes on, now in public. The movie moves on to tell what dramatic events make an U- turn in the life of Shyamala who had by now turned into an epitome of greed and selfishness
Krishna Poojappura, after his two big hits, weaves a full length film around a very few characters and succeeds in taking it to the last scene with links, that never appear genuine. You may find prototypes in real life who managed to make big names just by getting lathi-charged in front of the secretariat. And you could even remember visuals of party men trying to stain themselves with the blood of some other workers who were assaulted by the police, to emerge newsmakers. But here the transfer of a homemaker to the revenue minister is the least believable episode of many more that are offered.
Urvashi makes a cake walk through the role of Shyamala and it is her caricaturist performance with intense comic flair that keeps our interests in the proceedings. Nedumudi Venu and Saikumar plays to their roles while Bhama returns with a role that aptly suits her, though her modern dress codes in the songs doesn't. Kunchakko Boban has a limited role that he dons with flair while Suraj and Jagadheesh appear as sidekicks in every scene trying to elicit some laughter with their regular numbers, that we had been part of in the past.
Jibu Jacob has created some fine visuals once again while Manoj has also done some decent cuts. But the musical scores by M G Sreekumar and their picturing can be easily forgotten without any regrets. And that chroma-keyed fantasy song is totally out of date and strictly unwanted.
'Sakudumbam Shyamala' is for those who don't demand any quality entertainment to make loud laughs. It may appeal to family viewers and can kill their 137 minutes, if they can admit that every movie is not made to be a classic on decent logic. Some movies like this one are insignificant, on mushy scripts but can entertain you in parts.

Kodak EasyShare M580 review

Kodak EasyShare M580 front

Good

  • Vivid colours and crisp-looking detail
  • Better-than-expected 8x zoom

Bad

  • Awful interface
  • Very limited manual controls
  • Cheap and tacky feel
Kodak might not be the force it once was in photography, but it's still plugging away with its own range of digital cameras. The EasyShare M580 is one of its newest models. If you're expecting a cheap, plastic throwback, you might be surprised. This is a compact camera with one of the latest 14-megapixel sensors and an 8x optical zoom, and it sells for around £160.
Keeps it simpleThat's a pretty good start, so what else has the M580 got? There's a 720p movie mode, 'smart capture' automation and 'perfect touch' image processing. You can tag content for uploading to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook and the Kodak Gallery, and... and... um, well that's it, really.

The M580's lens delivers good edge-to-edge sharpness, modest distortion and not much chromatic aberration. You get heightened detail and eye-popping colours, but the battle between noise and noise reduction takes its toll past ISO 200 (click image to enlarge)
But, to be fair, the M580 never sets out to be anything more than a simple snapper, and its photos are very interesting. They're bright, crisp and colourful, and the 8x zoom lens is much better than you might expect, especially at longer zoom settings, where it maintains pretty good sharpness and contrast compared to most.
The detail rendition from the perfect-touch processing is also... interesting. It applies positively brutal sharpening, but this does create detail with real bite. Things start to go pear-shaped past about ISO 200, however, at which point noise takes over and the perfect-touch processing struggles to keep up. Up until that point, though, the M580 delivers unusually crisp, clear and vivid pictures.

A 76mm (3-inch) display lets you acquaint yourself with the M580's woeful interface
Kodak's approach to image processing here is clearly different to every other manufacturer's. Today's high-resolution compact-camera sensors often deliver soft, low-contrast images in which subtler details dissolve into a feeble haze, especially with lower-quality lenses. The M580 attacks the problem with a sledgehammer, and, even though the processing is overt and verging on lurid, it works. If you stand back and admire the prints, you'll be okay -- just don't look too closely at the pixels.
The dynamic-range-expansion feature has a good stab at coping with bright skies and dark shadows, too. It certainly seems more effective than the simple shadow-enhancement options on other cameras.
Interface all in your faceThe trouble is that the M580 has an interface from hell. The on-screen controls are limited to a small cluster of icons in the top left of the screen that change according to the mode you're in, and don't all respond to the directional buttons. You'll figure out eventually that the icon on the left indicates the currently selected shooting mode, and the one next to it is the flash mode, and both are set using buttons on the top of the camera.

Living room

We must keep the living-room clean and neat. The most important room of a house for the visitors are the living-rooms. Now a days most of the houses are adopted the Italian style for their living-room interiors. In my opinion Italian furniture are simple and native. That's why most of the engineers prefer that. Magadheera in Tamil

Telugu superstar Ram Charan Teja’s mega blockbuster in Telugu Maghadheera is going to be partially re-shot and dubbed in Tamil as ‘Mannathi Mannan’, which also happens to be the title of a 1960 MGR’s smash hit. Leading Tamil producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, who has purchased the dubbing rights, will be re-shooting some of the scenes to ensure the new version suits the taste of Tamil audiences. A source said, a separate comedy track will be shot and Vivek is likely to do it, though nothing has been confirmed. They are also planning to re-shoot Sri Hari’s scenes with a Tamil actor.

The trouble is that it would be very difficult to rebuild the sets and recreate the grandeur and richness of the original. The idea seems to be that if the dubbed version of Arundathi, without any re-shoot, could work big time in Tamil Nadu, Mannathi Mannan, with better graphics and special effects, could work even better with its title value. The buzz is that Ram Charan Teja will dub in his own voice. Keeravani’s music will certainly be a plus for the film.

Urumi: Santosh Sivan's next

Santosh Sivan, the man behind the visual excellence of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Raavanan/ Raavan is all set to start his next project, but this time as a director.

This Malayalam-Tamil bilingual, a period drama tentatively titled Urumi (a flexible sword), will star Prithviraj and the hot and happening Genelia in the lead roles. Reportedly Urumi is about a group of men who wanted to assassinate Vasco Da Gama, the Portuguese explorer who set foot in Kappad in Calicut in 1498.

“I’m making a film titled Urumi with Prithvi and Genelia. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. Urumi is the 8 feet-long long flexible sword used in Kalari fights since a long time. Sankar Ramakrishnan, who had directed the promising short film Island Express in the Kerala Cafe anthology, is writing the script. The film, a bilingual, is set in the 15th century and will be made for international audiences,” Santosh Sivan said to a leading English daily.

“The filming of Urumi will commence in August in Kerala. I have directed and photographed all my films,” he added.
