Chevrolet Tavera was loved by many but with the new Bharat IV emission norms setting in, the car is no longer available in the 13 metro cities where the norms are applicable. The mini-MPV segment is an attractive one and a player like Chevrolet would not like to leave a gap in their portfolio as this new segment is seeing lots of action lately. There is a plethora of launches in this segment waiting to happen.
There is no confirmation but there has been a strong speculation regarding the launch of Chevrolet Orlando. The Indian arm of the American automaker could possibly be looking to roll out Outlander to replace the Tavera, which is phasing out due to the BS IV norms. The company is in no mood to upgrade the existing Tavera model anytime in the near future. GM had announced in May 2010 that the Chevrolet Orlando will not go on sale in the U.S. but it would serve the fast developing markets like India and China.
This in a way fuels the speculations of Chevrolet Orlando coming in. The Orlando is a versatile five-door, seven-seat compact MPV which will be manufactured by General Motors. The response from the company given to an auto portal was a denying one. A senior official at GM India said, “As far as our future plans with Tavera are concerned, it’s too early to offer any comments.” And regarding the Chevrolet Orlando rollout he said, “For competitive reasons, we do not disclose our product details. Having said this, as of now, we have no plans to introduce Orlando.”
